Through this unit, I have learned a lot of things about pop culture. First of all, from the text what is pop culture, I learn something more about William Shakespeare. Before I read this text, I thought Shakespeare’s works are always high culture, and they are hard to understand since they were made. But after I learned this text, I knew that Shakespeare was actually very popular during his lifetime, and his works were widely spread. His works became high culture because his works are too classical, and scholars analyzed them word by word and taught them in the school. There is also an aha point, long time ago during Shakespeare’s lifetime, ‘popular’ means that the people lived in nearby town would ride horse or walk to Shakespeare’s town to watch the show. It was impossible to have million followers just like now. Another thing I learned from this text is how to define a pop culture. It must be made up of all the objects, people, events, and places to which most of us readily relate and which comprise a society at any given time, past or present.  

 

About the project POP STARS, I really learned a lot of things. First of all, I learned how to make power point and how to design it too make it more beautiful. I think power point has a lot of functions, it can add anything you want. I think master it will provide lots of helps to my future. Through other classmates ppt and the experience of mine, I learned that ppt must be attractive, don’t just put a lot of words and just read it, you had better add some pictures. Also, you can play a video as an ‘attention getter’ before your presentation. Also, you had better put some key words on your slide to let your other classmates know what you are talk about and make it easy for them to make notes. You can also put some background music. About the presentation, you need to rise your volume and add some body language, make eye contact to you audiences. Don't just watch the ppt and read it out. That’s boring. From the presentations of other classmates, I learned a lot of things about pop stars, and it helps me to know more about my classmates, for example, I know what’s their favorite stars and why they like he/she, and what are their opinions about those pop stars. In China, I didn’t pay much attention about foreign pop stars, so their presentations give me a lot of information about this aspect and help me to have more topic to talk to others. It is really helpful.  

For the team project, I think this is a very distinct difference between high school and college. When I was in high school, I seldom have this kind of team project, and all of them were casual. But the homework here, if you don’t attach importance to it, you whole would be affected by you. Also, you need to have good connection with your group mates, and you need cooperation instead of competition. The most important thing is we need to have full preparation, this time I do really bad, I thought I was ready, but I still make it mess. I also know that ppt is a tool for you to have a better speech, I need to focus on my speech more. This time I spent a lot of time on making the ppt and didn’t have much time to prepare the speech, put the cart before the horse. 

The fad also help me to have some knowledge about the past. Especially when I see something is in my parents generation I would think: woo, they were using this when they were young. That is excited. I would come home and share with them.   

 

In the past, I didn’t know how to use power point, but now, I have practice it, and my classmates helped me a lot. I think this is a very useful skill, when you go to university or go to work, you both need this skill and it is really important. I will use this new skill to complete more project and practice more to make it perfect.
