Reflection 4 

In unit 4, we learn about the music. Include the history, the genre and so on. During the class, we listen to a lot of songs, which makes this unit more interesting. In the first class, we had a music appreciation. This is my first time to do such things. We will write down the color that relates to the song. I thing is interesting. In the class, we watch the video about the top 10 singers in different period, I learned how the trend change.

 About the pinboard presentation, I did it on the Pinterest. I learned about some music genre, such as rap, blues. Also I know some thing about my parents’ generation’ music. When I watched other classmates’ presentation, I learned about their music preference and the music of their parents’ generation, and from that, I learned other culture indirectly. 

 

Before I read the articles, I don’t know that the pop music sounds the same. I didn’t notice that. About the reading same old song, this article tells us that pop music has something that against political correctness, that’s why the adults always against their children to listen this kind of songs. Through this article, I gradually understand that why my father sometimes would tell me that the songs I listen to are awful. About the article Scientists just discovered why all pop music sounds exactly the same, as the title, this article also wants to tell us that all the pop music are same. It tells us why it would be same, why although those music sounds same, they still popular. Compare between these two articles, the same things about them are the pop music mostly listened by young people, all the pop music sounds the same, also, the music trend is predictable. About the differences between these two articles, The Same Old Song is focus on generation conflict, and the Scientists...Same is focusing on why the pop music always sounds exactly the same, because the musicians need to have brainwashing for the listeners. Also, this article has more aspect than The Same Old Song. The Same Old Song only about the lyrics. 

 

From the reading of blues, I learned a lot of history about America, many big event in America.  

My Aha moment is when I look at the Top40, none of them I familiar to, but when I play the music, that I realized that I have listened Top5. Everyday my sister and I drive to downtown, we would listen the radio station, and it would play the top 5 on the radio, I think this is the “brainwashing”. 

After learning this unit, I learned some more vocabulary. I know what LP means, Gitte brought her PC and play for us. And many other new words such as Political correctness means the principle of avoiding language and behaviour that may offered particular groups of people and so on.
